The principle behind an Electronic Muscle Stimulator (EMS) is actually quite simple. When you
voluntarily contract any muscle of your body, the brain first sends a
signal along a nerve to the motor point of the muscle. This signal is
similar to a very weak electrical current and commands the muscle to
contract. When using a muscle stimulator, conductive electrode pads are placed on
the surface of the skin over the motor points of the targeted muscle.
When an electrical impulse is applied through the electrodes, the
signal stimulates the motor point and causes the muscle to contract.
It's just as if the signal had been sent by the brain to the
nerve.
Our muscle stimulators not only provide a safe and
effortless way for weight-lifters to create rock-hard muscles,
increased density, strength and endurance (now you can actually reach
your fitness goals), but they also sport a built-in TENS unit -
irreplaceable for the management of chronic, debilitating pain.
Martial artists use them to build explosive power, speed and
flexibility. Physical therapists and NFL trainers bank on them to
accelerate their patients recovery from torn ligaments, tendons and
general muscle injuries. For those interested in weight loss, muscle stimulation
provides the concentrated exercise necessary to help reduce fatty
deposits (cellulite) and increase circulation. These muscle stimulators also offer
the perfect exercise program for the physically challenged or people
with a sedentary lifestyle. It's even being used by NASA for
zero-gravity exercise!
